Aug 24 The Day Dawns - Keeping Appointments

If you have made wedding-day beauty appointments, it is important to keep them. This may seem an unnecessary reminder, but in the fray of checking forecasts, making decisions, and juggling phone calls, you may feel so overwhelmed that you think your nails look just fine as is.

Not only is it a good idea to keep your scheduled appointments, you should make every effort to arrive on time. Your hairstylist, makeup artist, manicurist, or other service provider may have a busy schedule, and the last thing you want on your wedding day is a rush job. Sitting in a chair being fussed over is not only a prerequisite to looking and feeling your best on this special day, it is an opportunity to decompress a bit. You can go back to making calls and worrying about the weather the moment the final tendril is sprayed in place, but until then, take time out to focus on inner peace and outer beauty.

Day Dawn

Savor the Preparations

As you develop a schedule for the hours preceding your marriage celebration, try to allow plenty of time both for items that you know you must accomplish, such as putting on your dress or tux, and for those you might need to handle, such as notifying vendors of a location switch. While you may be able to do everything in a rush and still make it to your ceremony on time and looking fabulous, you will miss important moments that you can’t ever reclaim. In fact, both the groom and bride should plan to spend this preparation time celebrating and having fun with their groomsmen and bridesmaids.

Play music, set out a buffet of favorite decadent foods, tell stories, snap candid photographs. Take time to thank each person who is standing up for you for their presence in your life. Though marriage does not spell an end for relationships with girlfriends, guy friends, siblings, or parents, it does represent a change. Don’t miss the opportunity to tell your mother you love her as she fusses with your veil or straightens your bowtie. The rest of the day will zoom by with a speed that you can’t yet conceive, so make getting ready a time to do things deliberately and to cherish the final moments at the close of this chapter of your life.
